How Angie’s List Can Benefit Your Company


Angie’s List  is quickly becoming a preeminent online resource for finding local, recommended service companies of all types.  (You’ve probably seen the TV commercials about the handy man that ran up the pay per view bill or the plumber that took time to walk the customer’s dog)The recommendations (or condemnations) all come from local consumers who have experience with the company.  Visit www.angieslist.com and click Quick Tour at the top of the screen for a full description of how the site works.

This is not a site where service companies have paid to be listed.  Instead, a company only becomes listed when an Angie’s List member (subscribing consumer) “grades” a company’s perofrmance after having done business with them.  The result is that members can go to the site, search for a service provider, and base their decision on what company to use by reading the experiences their neighbors have had with the company.

There are three primary ways that you can use Angie’s List to benefit your company:

Encourage Your Customer to Submit a Report On Your Company

Since you cannot list yourself on Angie’s List, you need to get one of your customers to submit a report on your company (preferable one that is extremely satisfied with your service!).  You can provide your customers with report forms availabe from Angie’s List at no cost.  Any consumer, Angie’s List member or not, can submit a review a company.  Be aware that only Angie’s List members’ feedback is included in the overall scorecard for a company.  Members and Non-Memberscan also leave a report on the site.

Set Up a Profile For Your Company

Service companies can set up a profile for their company in the Angie’s List database.  Once the profile is set up, your company will have an active listing on the website as soon as Angie’s List receives one report from a customer of yours.  

A Business Profile Questionnaire can be completed and returned via fax or e-mail and Angie’s List will set up the profile for you. If you prefer. 

Use the “Fetch Me a Report” Feature

Through this free program, Angie’s List contacts your clients in common to hopefully gather reports on your company.  Email services@brandsource.com for the report form.

Here’s how it works…Angie’s List takes your list of customer names and numbers and cross-reference it with their member database (because this is the same information required of members to sign up).  If there are any matches, they contact those members and offer to take a report on your company.  Angie’s List only contacts those people who are already signed up as members, and does not use your customer list for any other purpose, so your customers’ privacy will be respected.  

Angie’s List only offers the “Fetch Me a Report” program one time to interested service providers, so this is your chance to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Generally companies with more reports on Angie’s List receive more Angie’s List member calls and jobs.
